Dear Claypit Caregivers,
Yesterday brought our first truly inclement weather of the school year, and with it came a record number of cars during drop-off and pick-up. When the weather is rainy or snowy, car volume increases significantly, which can make our arrival and dismissal routines take longer. Remember, instruction begins at 8:00 and any student arriving after 8:00 a.m. will be marked tardy.

We want to take this opportunity to review a few important drop-off and pick-up procedures. These routines help us keep traffic moving efficiently and, most importantly, keep our students, caregivers, and staff safe.

A Few Important Reminders
  • Please plan ahead on rainy or snowy days. When the weather is poor, please leave home extra early to allow additional time for drop-off and to ensure your child arrives at school on time.
  • Please pull as far into the circle as you can. During drop-off and pick-up, move forward in the circle as far as possible. Our adults will be outside and will wave cars forward.
  • Please unload and load as quickly as possible. Having students ready to exit or enter the car helps us keep the line moving.
  • Please watch our staff for directions. In particular, look to Phil, our crossing guard, and the other adults outside to know when it is safe and appropriate to enter and exit the circle.
  • Please remain in your vehicle. For everyone's safety, adults should never leave their cars during drop-off or pick-up.
  • Please wait for the car in front of you. Cars must wait until the vehicle ahead has moved before entering or exiting the circle.
  • There is NO passing inside the circle. Please remain in line and follow the direction of our staff.
We know that arrival and dismissal can feel especially hectic on rainy or snowy days. Your patience, preparation, and attention to these procedures make a tremendous difference.
Safety is our number one priority. Thank you for helping us make drop-off and pick-up safe, predictable, and efficient for everyone in our Claypit community.

Coming Up in Our Community

We are so excited for this Sunday’s Harvest Festival! Come join us from 1:00–3:00 p.m. for an afternoon of fun and community. You can preview the book fair, enjoy the bounce houses, and even take a chance on soaking some of your favorite educators while working on your pitch! We hope to see lots of Claypit families there.

Boston Playdate - New Date

We also want to share an update about our upcoming Boston playdate. The Eliza J. Norton event in our community was rained out this past weekend, and its rain date conflicts with our previously scheduled Boston playdate. We want to make sure our community has the opportunity to enjoy both important events!

For that reason, we have moved our Boston playdate to:

Saturday, October 17th
1:00–2:30 p.m.
Playground at Neponset Trail
Dorchester

We hope you will join us for an afternoon of play, connection, and an ice cream treat with friends in a beautiful setting. We can't wait to see you there!

Sincerely,
Marie, Kate and Naomi

Harvest Fall Festival and Book Fair

Claypit Hill’s Harvest Festival is scheduled for 1-3pm this Sunday, October 4. Our fall-themed family event includes games, crafts, snacks, first access to our book fair, a water bucket challenge, and - NEW THIS YEAR! - bouncy houses. However, we cannot run the event without caregiver volunteers to make sure all of the activities are safe and fun. Please sign up to volunteer just an hour of your time at this link.

The Water Bucket Challenge is back at the Harvest Festival! Bring your My Brother’s Table food pantry donation to get a ticket to play! This month, the My Brother’s Table team is collecting pasta and jars of tomato sauce. Every food item donated will earn you one chance to “dunk” your administrators and teachers!

PTO Meeting

Please join us for our fall PTO meeting at 7pm on Monday, October 5 at Claypit Hill (adults only) or via Zoom. Hear from Ms. Brigham, specifically regarding Claypit Hill’s school improvement plan and MCAS scores. We will also discuss upcoming PTO events/initiatives and how to get involved.

Meeting ID: 789 325 9542

Fall Book Fair

The fall book fair is scheduled for next week, October 5-9!

We need volunteers to help us staff the fair! Please consider signing up for a timeslot at this link. If the sign-up is already full, you are still welcome to come and shop with your kids during their book fair time slot. Note: The book fair will be in a new location this fall. Please plan to enter the building through the side entrance on the “big kid” playground side of the school.

Caregivers can send in cash or a check (made out to Wayland Public Schools PTO) with their child to spend at the book fair on your child’s scheduled day (see graphic). Please contact your child’s teacher or Ms. Brigham if a book fair scholarship would be helpful.

Our book fair will be run by Fantastic Book Fairs, an independent bookstore. Families can choose to donate funds here to a teacher, classroom, the library or TAs/reading specialists so they can buy books through the fair. Any donation is appreciated!

Feel free to reach out to Lauren Grant (quinn.lauren@gmail.com) or Courtney Marzilli (courtneymarzilli@gmail.com) with any questions.

PTO Thank You

Our Staff Appreciation team was hard at work once again planning a fabulous dinner for our staff on Curriculum Night. A big thank you to Gina Anderson, Gina Cherco, and Lindsay Wright, as well as all of the caregivers who donated drinks, desserts, items for the salad bar, and other supplies. And, of course, a huge thank you to Candidus family and Max & Leo’s in Sudbury for all of the pizza!

And thanks to Caeli Richter and her team of volunteers – Holly Carmody, Cassie Chen,  Katherine Dawson, Zoe Donnell, Ana Marie Genofre, Greta Kaplan, Cassie Liu, Yi Liu, Jen Lux, Tamera Mack, Robyn Padden, Kristin Smith, and Qiong Yang – for helping picture day run smoothly on Friday!

Lastly, thank you to Catherine Burns and Amanda Gale for delivering a fall breakfast spread to the teachers at Loring School in Sudbury yesterday. The breakfast was Claypit Hill’s show of our support following the tragic loss of one of Loring’s students this summer.

Several stacks of cardboard pizza boxes are arranged neatly on tables covered with black cloths in a room.
A self-serve salad bar features various greens, toppings, and dressings set against a chalkboard backdrop.

My Brother's Table

Claypit Hill collects donations throughout the year to support local families through My Brother’s Table food pantry. Watch for suggested donations each month, and consider picking up a few items to contribute when you’re at the grocery store. There is a donation bin at the Claypit Hill entrance, which is an easy spot for kids or families to drop-off donations as they enter the school.
A flyer for October suggested food donations featuring pasta and sauce, sponsored by My Brother's Table and Claypit Hill PTO.
