Dear Claypit Hill Caregivers,

As we return from the Memorial Day weekend, we hope that our families had an opportunity to enjoy time together, rest, and the unofficial start to summer. While barbecues, gatherings, and short getaways have become part of the holiday tradition for many, Memorial Day also calls us to pause and remember its true purpose: honoring the brave men and women who gave their lives while serving in the United States military. Their sacrifice reminds us of the importance of gratitude, service, and caring for one another as members of a community.

Over the next several weeks, a number of important religious observances will also be recognized by members of our school community and around the world. This week, many Jewish families observed Shavuot, a holiday commemorating the giving of the Torah and celebrating learning, community, and gratitude. Christian families recently celebrated Pentecost, which recognizes the descent of the Holy Spirit and is often considered the “birthday” of the Christian Church. Today, many Muslim families will observe Eid al-Adha, the “Festival of Sacrifice,” a holiday centered on faith, generosity, prayer, and caring for those in need.

At Claypit, we are fortunate to be part of a diverse and caring school community where many traditions, cultures, and beliefs are honored and respected. Taking time to learn about one another’s celebrations helps children build empathy, curiosity, and understanding of the wider world around them. We wish peace and joy to all of our families observing these meaningful occasions and thank you for helping us continue to nurture a school community rooted in kindness, respect, and belonging.

As Memorial Day moves into our rearview mirror, the many celebrations and traditions that mark the end of the school year will begin filling our calendar. Last week’s wonderful fifth grade play was just the beginning! We look forward to welcoming families to this week’s music performances as “Elementary String Thing” takes place Wednesday evening and “Elementary Grand Band” takes place Thursday evening, both beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Wayland High School. These events are joyful opportunities to celebrate our students’ talents, growth, and hard work. We hope to see many caregivers in the coming weeks.

We know that this time of year is extraordinarily busy. If you can spare a few moments, would you please consider filling out the PTO's Claypit Hill Caregiver Survey? We will use your feedback to make important decisions about the 2026-2027 school year. We truly value your input.

Sincerely,

Marie, Kate and Naomi

PTO Thank You

Thank you to Courtney Marzilli, Lauren Grant, Jen Lux, Larina Mehta and Alexis Schayowitz for organizing and supporting last week’s book fair. Also, thank you to all the caregivers who helped students shop at the book fair and contributed to allow staff to add more books to the school/classroom libraries!

My Brother's Table

Claypit Hill collects donations throughout the year to support local families through My Brother’s Table food pantry. Watch for suggested donations each month, and consider picking up a few items to contribute when you’re at the grocery store. There is a donation bin at the Claypit Hill entrance, which is an easy spot for kids or families to drop-off donations as they enter the school.
