Dear Claypit Hill Caregivers,

We are excited to write to you this week in anticipation of Family Math Night. This event for all elementary students will be hosted at Claypit this year. The event will run from 6:00 to 7:15. We look forward to sharing our curriculum with you. We are in our third year with Bridges in Mathematics. This curriculum is an example of high quality instructional materials that meet the needs of all learners. Please consider joining us with your young mathematicians so that you can play games together that build number sense and procedural fluency, check out how Bridges in Mathematics challenges all students through Quests, and discover how the various components of the program like Number Corner and the Core Lesson build grade level proficiency. We believe that all students are capable of making sense of high level mathematics and that math should be fun. We’d love to show off our mathematicians and our curriculum! Many Claypit Hill educators will be joining us for this special event! Also, our PTO will be providing some really great snacks!

As you will read below, our Lost and Found is chock full. We are getting ready to make a large donation of unlabeled clothing, etc. In addition, our little table outside the office, where caregivers can drop off items forgotten for their children, is also often full. Please continue to encourage your children to ACT RESPONSIBLY by taking care of their own school belongings. Setting the expectation that your child returns home with their belongings and that your child takes the time the night before to pack everything needed for the next school day are reasonable expectations that with practice, even our youngest students can meet. Please do your best to NOT hurry lost items to school. There are few things that a child can’t live without for one day. Having to face natural consequences, like using the water fountain, as opposed to the child’s water bottle when it is forgotten, will serve as a good lesson and your child will be more motivated to remember next time. Let's collabrate toward our shared goal of raising independent children who need us less!

Thank you for your continued support of our attendance policy and for working hard to ensure that your children arrive at school on time. The efforts you make positively impact learning in our classrooms and help to form the characters of tomorrow’s leaders!

Sincerely,
Marie, Kate and Naomi

Grade 1 and Grade 3 - Sexual Abuse Prevention

Parents & Caregivers of 1st and 3rd Grade Students:

Beginning the week of March 9th and continuing until the end of the month, your children will participate in a program designed to educate students about sexual abuse prevention. Claypit Hill counselors will spend time in classrooms showing and discussing a video. The goal of the program is to help children:

  • Increase their awareness of abuse and exploitation;
  • Develop skills and understanding that will help them avoid a potentially abusive situation;
  • Know how important it is to tell a trusted adult if they have been abused; and
  • Understand that if a child has been abused, it is not their fault.

For those that would like to preview the videos, there will be an opportunity to do so:
  • Friday, March 6th 2026 at 8:15AM
  • These previews will be held in Mrs. Alvarez’s office.
  • Please contact us if you'd appreciate a preview but can't make the Friday date work.

All information is presented in an age-appropriate format at different developmental levels for the span of age groups involved. After watching the video and engaging in some discussion, the children will be asked to discuss it with you. Please contact me if you have questions about the program, concerns about your child, or wish for more information or additional resources,

Sincerely,
Mrs. Alvarez
School Adjustment Counselor
Grades K, 1 and 3

Lost and Found

The lost and found is full! All unlabeled, unclaimed items will be donated on Friday, March 6th at the end of the school day. Please have your students look for lost items. Thank you!

We will need volunteers to help prepare student art to go on display. There are several ways to help; if you are interested, please sign-up here:

  • March 6th and Week of March 9-12 - Visit your child's art class to help artists mat and label their artwork (K-3 only)
  • Thursday March 19 - (during the school day) - Help behind the scenes to mount artwork on display boards
  • Wednesday March 25 - Night of the show! Help set-up (before), work with kids on a collaborative art project (during) or clean-up (after)
Thank you in advance, this event wouldn't be possible without your and PTO support!

Backpack Aution Donations Needed

Planning for the 2026 Backpack Auction has begun! The auction is the second (of two) fundraising events that directly supports all of Wayland’s elementary schools. The auction (to take place in March) has historically had a huge response across families and the Wayland community and we hope it lives up to its reputation in 2026! Our goal is to identify thoughtful and exciting bidding items to make this year’s auction a success!

That’s where YOU come in!

Please consider donating any of the following to the auction:

Did you know: The funding we raise for the PTO this year determines our 2026-27 budget and
directly impacts what we’re able to do for our students next year--think of the back-to-school
picnic, incredible field trips, and all of the other wonderful enrichment opportunities that the PTO
enables through your generous support.

My Brother's Table

Claypit Hill collects donations throughout the year to support local families through My Brother’s Table food pantry. Watch for suggested donations each month, and consider picking up a few items to contribute when you’re at the grocery store. There is a donation bin at the Claypit Hill entrance, which is an easy spot for kids or families to drop-off donations as they enter the school.
