Dear Claypit Hill Caregivers,
We hope that the developmental checklists (kindergarten) and report cards (grades 1–5) were helpful in understanding your child’s progress this year. Please reach out between now and the March conferences should you have any concerns about your child’s progress. Open communication helps us support your child as effectively as possible. Please prioritize attending March conferences. There is truly no replacement for the face-to-face conversation that parents and educators have at conference time. These conversations help us work together to support your child’s growth and success.
As winter weather is upon us, please be sure students are dressed appropriately for cold weather and snow. At Claypit Hill School, we value play, especially outdoor play. We send children outside whenever the “feels like” temperature is 20 degrees or above, so warm coats, hats, gloves, boots, and snow pants are important.
Are you the parent of a second grader? If so, congratulations! Our second grade students’ attendance is 97%. This is higher than the district’s 96.1% and Claypit Hill School’s overall 96.3% attendance. Thank you for prioritizing strong attendance for your children. While our overall attendance has rebounded somewhat, we are not quite at last year’s levels. We are hopeful that after the February break we will all return in good health and see continued improvement.
|
We hope you and your children enjoy February vacation. We recommend providing lots of opportunities to play outside, spend time with friends and siblings, and get plenty of reading time in. We look forward to getting back at it together!
Thank you for your continued partnership and support.
Sincerely,
Marie, Kate, and NaomiT

Over the past several months, Wayland's Director of Diversity, Equity and Belonging, Caroline Han, has been working with Karen Blumenfeld and Heather Pineault (HRDEIC) and Jamele Adams to develop a four-part conversation series for parents and caregivers of WPS students focused on building skills for constructive dialogue across difference. Caroline is happy to share that our grant was recently funded!
We’re hoping to attract a diverse group of parents and caregivers, particularly those who are active in online community spaces. We'd love to have a significant representation from Claypit and we know that we have a parent community full of powerhouse caregivers who fill the above description.
Please read the information below and consider participating!

When: 7:00–8:30 pm on February 10, March 10, April 14, and May 12, 2026
Where: First Parish, 225 Boston Post Road, Wayland (in person only)
Who: Parents and other adults who live, work, worship, or send children to school in Wayland—whether you speak up often, tend to hold back, or fall somewhere in between
Registration: Required. Attendance at all four sessions is encouraged but not required.
|
About the series:
This four-session workshop focuses on building practical skills for real-life and online conversations—especially when perspectives differ or conversations feel uncomfortable. Participants will practice empathetic listening, curiosity, and self-awareness while learning from one another in a supportive setting. Together, the group will select the discussion topics for each session.
By the end of the series, participants will leave with concrete tools to engage across differences without losing connection, helping to strengthen relationships and our broader Wayland community.
This program is sponsored by Wayland Public Schools and the Wayland Human Rights, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee (HRDEIC), and is made possible through the generous support of the Lydia Maria Child Fund of First Parish in Wayland.

Did you know: The funding we raise for the PTO this year determines our 2026-27 budget and
directly impacts what we’re able to do for our students next year--think of the back-to-school

Claypit Hill collects donations throughout the year to support local families through My Brother’s Table food pantry. Watch for suggested donations each month, and consider picking up a few items to contribute when you’re at the grocery store. There is a donation bin at the Claypit Hill entrance, which is an easy spot for kids or families to drop-off donations as they enter the school.
