Claypit Hill News and More

December 2, 2025

Dear Caregivers,

This past Wednesday, our Claypit Hill community reveled in gratitude. Our staff started their day with our annual Thanksgiving pot luck breakfast. Many of our Claypit staff members bring their family members to this annual event which makes the breakfast all the more special. It is always so great to meet the families of our staff. Next, our 4th grade students worked to design their own parade floats. For the second year, we paused for the Claypit Thanksgiving Day Parade and admired the creativity of our students. Lastly, we gathered for our annual Thanksgiving All School Meeting where our fifth graders took center stage. They sang our school song (which is truly amazing), and a song titled, “I’m Thankful”. A group of fifth-graders dazzled us when they shared their clever “disguise a turkey project”. The highlight of the assembly was the Turkey Tango performed by our fifth graders. Under the direction of Joy Slesinger, they were remarkable! We loved watching our 5th grade caregivers beam with pride, too.

This week, we are back at it. In classrooms we observed fourth and fifth grade students deeply engaged in fraction work first thing yesterday morning. We have three full weeks and we intend to lean into rigor so that students stay challenged and engaged.  Please do your best to support your children in arriving on time and attending when healthy because there is essential learning happening in every classroom. We had a record-breaking 56 absences on Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving. Please plan your winter travel to support good attendance. We have two full weeks of vacation to enjoy with family and friends this year.  That is definitely something to look forward to!

Thanks for all you do to support your students so that they show up PAWSome every day. Checking in about homework, ensuring your students arrive on time, coaching them through social challenges, and demanding that they are kind are pro parenting moves. The efforts you make are truly difference-makers. We truly appreciate your partnership.

Sincerely,
Marie, Kate and Naomi

Gift Your Child

This Giving Tuesday, we need your help to reach our PTO fundraising goal! Our PTO enriches experiences for every student at Claypit Hill — from field trips and cultural enrichment programs to classroom funding/grants and community events.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed! If you haven’t had a chance yet, please give today to support your child’s educational experience: 🌟 waylandpto.org/gift-your-child

Every gift, no matter the size, makes an impact. Thank you for supporting our children, teachers, and school community!

Lost and Found

The lost and found is full! All unlabeled, unclaimed items will be donated on Friday, December 5th at the end of the school day. Please have your students look for lost items. Thank you!

Holiday Gift Drive

Thanks to the generosity of so many families, all children for the holiday gift drive have been sponsored.

How can you and your family still participate?
1. Draw generic holiday or winter-season messages or hand drawn pictures that we can add to gift bundles. Get creative and have fun!

2. Consider providing Visa gift cards ($25 denominations appreciated) to help us fill any gaps in wish lists. If you plan to do this, please sign up for a slot on the wish list

3. Consider purchasing gift wrapping supplies directly on our Amazon Wish List
Please drop off the items (cards, gifts, Visa gift cards) between Sunday, November 30 and Sunday, December 7 at the homes of Danielle Flynn (25 Concord Road), Amanda Gale (219 Glezen Lane), Molly Kaufman (4 Cobblestone Circle) or Devin Murphy (61 Old Sudbury Road). If dropping off gifts, please leave the items unwrapped in a bag or box with both the child's name and the social worker's names (both found on the wish list) clearly labeled.

Contact claypitholidaydrive@gmail.com with any questions. Thank you for helping to share the gift of giving with your own children while bringing joy to a child in need!

Cleats for Kids

We are collecting gently used cleats and shin guards to donate to the Framingham United Soccer Club PassItOn program. A collection bin will be outside the Claypit Hill School from Monday, December 1 to Saturday, December 6. For questions, please email elliot.koopersmith@gmail.com.

Just Like Me

We are looking for a parent volunteer to help run the Just Like Me autism unit for 5th graders

The material is heavily scripted and the volunteer does not need to have any previous experience with autism or have a 5th grader. The volunteer would run a slideshow presentation and follow up discussion in each classroom on the particular day. The following dates are being considered for the parent volunteer to come into the class and present: December 8, 9, 15, or 16. If you’re interested, please reach out to Colleen at colleenkurson@gmail.com to learn more.

My Brother's Table

Claypit Hill collects donations throughout the year to support local families through My Brother’s Table food pantry. Watch for suggested donations each month, and consider picking up a few items to contribute when you’re at the grocery store. There is a donation bin at the Claypit Hill entrance, which is an easy spot for kids or families to drop-off donations as they enter the school.
