Dear Caregivers,
It is hard to believe that we are already ⅓ the way through this school year. Tomorrow is day 60. Much of the first part of every year is spent helping students build community in their new classrooms, learning new routines and adjusting to the increasingly high expectations of a new grade level. Now, we are embarking on a truly critical part of the school year. Even though the next month will be interrupted with school vacations, educators at Claypit will be working hard to accelerate learning, capitalizing on all of the hard work done at the start. While they will still support students as needed, there will be a shift of responsibility to the student. Our students will be asked to take increased ownership for the learning, bearing more of the cognitive load. In our classrooms, across grade levels, students are asked to think deeply and make sense of what they are learning. In reading, they’re making conjectures and using evidence from the text to support their thinking. In math, students are considering multiple strategies, drawing connections between them and working to become more efficient. This deep learning is even happening in our kindergarten classes where students look at sophisticated patterns and wonder what will happen next and then, using information they’ve gathered, and the language of mathematics, they prove why they’re right!
As we move through this next busy month, we recommend slowing down. This, of course, is easier said than done. We encourage you to consider how you can invite calm into daily life. Try to plan opportunities for your kiddo(s) to enjoy some quiet time reading, writing, or making art each week. Time away from media like TV and video games is a gift. As the days grow short and cold, exercise and creative play are important, too. We know that you will do everything you can to ensure that your child stays healthy and well rested. This is critical for learning. Thank you in advance for prioritizing excellent school attendance. Our classrooms function best when all students are present! We want excellent outcomes for all of our students and we know that being present is key to every student’s success.
As attention turns this week to giving thanks, we are truly grateful for your partnership. Thank you for sharing your children with us and trusting us to do our part when it comes to educating our future leaders. We are thankful for a community who cares deeply about education and who supports, in your homes, the work that happens in our classrooms. We hope you and your family enjoy this extra long weekend!
Sincerely,
Marie, Kate and Naomi

A very sincere thank you to every family who made a donation to our PTO so that they could shower our educators with gifts of thanksgiving! Last Friday's breakfast goodies and gift cards for a coffee or treat at Dunks was so appreciated by the Claypit Hill staff. To our Claypit PTO - THANK YOU! We really do appreciate how hard you work to recognize our efforts and to communicate gratitude. Our hearts are full!

Thanks to the generosity of so many families, all children for the holiday gift drive have been sponsored.
How can you and your family still participate?
1. Draw generic holiday or winter-season messages or hand drawn pictures that we can add to gift bundles. Get creative and have fun!
2. Consider providing Visa gift cards ($25 denominations appreciated) to help us fill any gaps in wish lists. If you plan to do this, please sign up for a slot on the wish list.
Please drop off the items (cards, gifts, Visa gift cards) between Sunday, November 30 and Sunday, December 7 at the homes of Danielle Flynn (25 Concord Road), Amanda Gale (219 Glezen Lane), Molly Kaufman (4 Cobblestone Circle) or Devin Murphy (61 Old Sudbury Road). If dropping off gifts, please leave the items unwrapped in a bag or box with both the child's name and the social worker's names (both found on the wish list) clearly labeled.
Contact claypitholidaydrive@gmail.com with any questions. Thank you for helping to share the gift of giving with your own children while bringing joy to a child in need!

We are looking for a parent volunteer to help run the Just Like Me autism unit for 5th graders.
The material is heavily scripted and the volunteer does not need to have any previous experience with autism or have a 5th grader. The volunteer would run a slideshow presentation and follow up discussion in each classroom on the particular day. The following dates are being considered for the parent volunteer to come into the class and present: December 8, 9, 15, or 16. If you’re interested, please reach out to Colleen at colleenkurson@gmail.com to learn more.

Claypit Hill collects donations throughout the year to support local families through My Brother’s Table food pantry. Watch for suggested donations each month, and consider picking up a few items to contribute when you’re at the grocery store. There is a donation bin at the Claypit Hill entrance, which is an easy spot for kids or families to drop-off donations as they enter the school.
